During the Steam Summer Adventure 2014 event, players were divided into 5 teams: Blue, Green, Pink, Purple and Red. These teams competed with each other with points earned by crafting badges. Standard badges from the Steam Summer Adventure 2014 set were worth 10 points, foil Summer Adventure 2014 badges were worth 100 points, normal badges from any other set 1 point, and foil badges from any other set 10 points.
Each day, 30 people in the team with the most points who contributed that day would win 3 games from their Steam wishlist. Starting on the sixth day, 20 people from the second place team won 2 games, and 10 people from the third-place team 1 game.

At the end of the sale, players were also given a team badge. Because red team won the event, their badge shows a trophy and has a golden border, and is worth 150 Steam experience points instead of 100.
